Extension Activities

Extension activities of the department:

  • Diet & Nutrition Counseling Centre
    The Department runs a Diet and Nutrition Counseling Centre with a service motive and as a support to health and disease management. This service is offered to the general public and to patients refered by hospitals and medical practitioners on payment of a nominal fee. The counseling includes dietary advice prescribing diet schedule and distribution of print material.
  • Consultancy services
    The department has taken up consultancy service on design of diet & nutrition framework for child Development Centres, for the alumni, entrepreneurs of Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.
  • Nutrition education to masses
    Nutrition education to masses is being carried out through
    • TV and radio programmes, publishing of popular articles in news papers,  magazines and
    • Celebration of important occasion like World food Day, Diabetic day, Nutrition week, etc., in rural and urban areas.
    • Development of nutrition lessons on compact discs in collaboration with EMRC etc.
  • Production Cum Sale Unit
    Department has established a production cum sale unit which is functioning in the college from the month of August, 2009. The products on sale are
    Multigrain flour  Tomato toffee
    Ragi malt Millet based snacks
    Vegetable pickles  

    These products are successfully marketed to consumers. In order to give a safe, wholesome and reliable product, FPA certification was obtained for food products

  • Conducting Training Programmes
    The departmental staff are actively involved in conducting training programmes to field functionaries of Women Development and Child Welfare, Tribal Welfare and Social Welfare Department, National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC), various other NGOs staff and also adolescent girls and women of rural and urban areas, in production oriented courses like fruits and vegetables preservation, bakery and confectionary, millet processing and extrusion technology  etc.
